Error seen during backup:

The operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software.


This error usually comes from the Windows Defender and means that the marked files can be a potential virus. If the file is flagged as suspicious the system will not let software operate on it.

Please check if the reported file is malware. You can check which files triggered the error in the backup history tab in the backup application or in the detailed report of the backup plan.

You can consider excluding such files from the plan (moving or deleting them). Disabling the AV or Windows Defender would work as well.

Helpful tip:

To find the file in question;

  1. Open the Cloudsafe software on your desktop and Log in.
  2. Navigate to the History tab
  3. Make sure you select All Plans from the dropdown menu next to Backup / Restore plans.
  4. At the bottom part of the screen, under "Operation", search for the file where the Result is Failed.
